Host City | Orangamonk

History

Orangamonk was founded in the early 1400s by a group lead by leader at the time Saint Monkey IV who found the city in a bid to populate the mountainous regions and to set up farms and small mining operations in their rich and fertile lands.

However the area has been populated since 500BCE, by an ancient nomadic tribe, since gone exctinct. The city was named after this tribe, the Orangamonk Nomadic Tribe, after archaeologists discovered an andesite statue in the centre of the city revealing the name of the tribe in 1919. There was also a large meeting tent and a graveyard. Since nomadic tribes moved around a lot of the time, it was believed that either a conflict took place here or it was the sacred place the tribe did their funerals. The locals call the city Onamo, due to a well documented tradition by the nomadic tribe involving jumping off a mountain with just a rope attached to you and holding a piece of bread for luck. No wonder the city is known as the sandwich city! In many communities, this is still practiced today.

Things to do

There are many, many things to do in Orangamonk. You have the Tribal Museum, containing many relics from the past of this land, the cave escape rooms, known as the best in the country, the Nochala Monument, the Onamo Cinema, Saint Andena, the fantastic Old Town, Game Convention Centre and the Andechimps Spa Springs, known for its healing powers and for the chosen ones even superpowers!

The beautiful Orangamonk National Park offers plenty of walking routes, including one to it's highest peak, Mt. Orangu, at 4007m. You can stay at the two huts overnight, the Onamo Hut (3611m) and the Orangu hut (4001m). There are waterfalls, little streams, beautiful valleys and more. The area is mostly covered in trees, except the tops of the peaks, making it one of the highest forests in Saint Monkey. The park is part of the larger Andechimps National Mountain Range, and many people begin the long journey starting here to Saint Monkey's highest mountain, Mount Orangamonkountain (6243m).

There are many tour guides and treasure hunts around Orangamonk, allowing you to explore secret, unfiltered spots within the city.

Events

There are many events and festivals that take place over the year in Orangamonk. The SAINT PLAY Retro Gaming Festival is turning 50 this year, the first edition in 1975 being called the SAINT PLAY Gaming Festival as of course, it was not retro back then! It is also home to the International PLAY RETRO tornuament. The prize is $10,000 and there were over 200 entrants last year! Although not very well known, many countries participated.

The Sky Opera Arena helps host the Andechimps Mountain Festival (25th December-5th January), and the city hosts an outside concert at the end of the Festival of the Tribes (3rd-19th March) when the tribes return to the Andechimps and parade through the streets. They also celebrate the Festival of Cities (23rd-30th June) and the Sky Opera Arena helps host the more local Orchestral Festival (4th November - 8th November).

Sleepcozy has partnered with us to offer accomodation at lowered prices as well as helping local people run their local BnBs too! Delegates will be staying at the Old Town Hotel, dating back to the 1700s. Press and other delegates parttaking in WV Valley will be given separate accomodation.

Food is very important and even more delicious in the city. Often dubbed the "Sandwich City" it has arguably the best sandwiches in the world. Sandwich bars are everywhere here most sandwiches made with the traditional Kubatata, baked over a fire to perfection. There's also much more types of food in the city, quaint restuarants, creating interesting blends of world and Saint Monkeyian food, as well as your traditional Andechimpian and Saint Monkeyian food, such as the Kalapork and the Banana Supreme Delacora.
